This song is a reflection on the true story of Rudolf Vrba. It is a complicated piece, much like the man who inspired it.
44070 was the number branded on Vrba’s arm upon arrival at the Auschwitz-Birkrneau camp during WWII. His daring escape from the camp, along with Alfred Wetzler, changed history.
After he found freedom, Vrba’s reports of what he had seen halted deportations of Hungary’s Jews and others to death camps. His escape and actions are credited with saving the lives of over 100,000 people.
This piece is a musical tribute to him.
